Continuation of the development of the four basic language skills.

Study of a selected topic in French. May be repeated as topics change.

FR-298  Independent Study  (1-4 Credits)  

An opportunity for a qualified student to explore work in an area of individual interest, selected and pursued in consultation with a faculty member. Consent required of the instructor who will supervise the independent study and the appropriate divisional dean. Repeatable to a total of 8 credits.

FR-315  Conversation & Composition I  (4 Credits)  

To maintain and perfect written and spoken French through intensive classroom work, as well as individual and group work. Discussions and frequent papers in French based on cultural and literary readings and videos given in French. Emphasis on oral communication.

FR-316  Conversation & Composition II  (4 Credits)

A study of various critical approaches to French literature conducted in French.

FR-405  Contemporary French Usage  (4 Credits)  

Advanced study of syntax, semantics, and lexicon based on actual usage in the contemporary Francophone world.

Prerequisite(s): FR-315 or permission of instructor  
FR-410  Advanced French Grammar  (4 Credits)  

A study of contemporary French grammar, and a treatment of the typical pitfalls for non-native users of French.

FR-490  Advanced Special Topics  (4 Credits)  

Study of a selected topic in French at an advanced level. May be repeated as topics change.

FR-495  Seminar  (4 Credits)  

The capstone experience for French majors. Topics based on needs and interests of the group.

Intensive study of some aspect of French language, literature, or culture adapted to the students needs. May be repeated to a maximum of 8 credits.
